The Bold Series

The Move That Changed Everything

by Keren

No matter if you’re in New York, Paris, or Tokyo  we all go through moments that shake us, wake us, and change us.

This is a new series of bold stories  from me to you. Stories of women who dared to change direction.

Who said yes to the unknown.

Who got lost, got tired, got scared  but still kept going.

And I’m starting with mine.

My story begins with a whisper.

It came from the stories my father used to tell.

He was a sailor, a traveler between countries.

Among all the ports, one always stayed in his voice: Portugal.

He had fallen in love with it. And as a little girl, I felt that love through him. Years later, I found myself chasing a different kind of movement one rooted in freedom, curiosity, and that beautiful restlessness that leads us toward meaning.

By the age of 22, I was working in the travel industry, dreaming big, flying far, tasting everything the world had to offer. And then I met a man.

Three weeks later, we spontaneously booked a trip to Portugal.

It was December 2007.
The streets glowed with Christmas lights.

As we entered the taxi from the airport, I felt it in my bones: something had shifted. But here’s the truth: I didn’t move to Portugal right away.

That magical weekend only planted a seed.

In my heart, I knew I wanted to live here but I didn’t know when. Life continued. We had babies.

We returned to Portugal a few more times now as a family.

Each time, that inner voice grew louder.

A quiet plan was forming, but I wasn’t ready yet.
Then one summer, on a longer visit, with the kids running wild and no moment to even breathe the voice roared.

Not in panic. Not in impulse. But with certainty that came from deep, slow listening. This is the moment, it said.  And I heard it.

Because I had trained myself, over years, to listen differently.

To read between the lines.

To trust the wisdom that doesn’t shout, but knows. The very next day, I looked up schools.

Checked housing.

And then I decided. Not with a spreadsheet. Not with a relocation agency.

We didn’t bring boxes or plans.

We arrived in swimsuits. We left everything behind.  No, I didn’t know how long it would last.

No, I didn’t know what we were heading into.

But I felt alive. I was no longer waiting. I was becoming And the most beautiful part? I was finally seen as me.

Not someone’s daughter, someone’s manager, someone’s old version.

Just me.

Raw. Real. Reborn. That’s the fire I want to share with you in this series.

Moments where we step into something braver.

Not because we know how but because we know we have to.

This is Chapter One of The Bold Series, a series of real stories, from real women, who made bold moves.

And I want to hear yours. Because here's what no one tells you:

Most of us feel like something’s off, or stuck, or not quite right while everyone else looks “fine.” Don’t be fooled.
